Primary Research

Primary Research is original research that we have gathered which has a specific purpose about it and alows us to obtain original data. There are many ways we can collect primary research using techniques such as interviews, surveys, focas groups.
Interviews: Allows people to collect information over the phone or in person.
Questionnaires: These can be done online or on a piece of paper which you can hand out.
Focas Groups: When a film company wants to show a preview of a new film to a group of people then ask those people what they thought about the film.

Advantages:

-Primary Research allows us to collect specific research issues and allows the researcher to control the search design.
-Great control is also another advantage of Primary Research, and allows the researcher to have great control over how the information is collected. Therefore the researcher can decided certain things such as the size of the project, timeframe and the goal.

Disadvantages:

-Primary Research can be very expensive for carrying out the research and preparing the research such as purchasing the paper in order to carry the research out on.
-Late responses may be gathered and are to be expected.
-By the time the research is done it may be out of date therefore a waste of time.
-Some information collected may not be what the researcher needs and may be disregarded.

Examples:

As an example I set up a questionnaire online to gather original data about what people thought and would like to hear on radio stations. By doing this it allows me to find out peoples opinions about radio stations and what I can do to in order for them to listen and stay tuned.
Radio Survey

The above link is a questionnaire which is my example of primary research. An advantage of this questionnaire it was easy to do and very cheap because I made it on a website.
